Château de VincennesThe Château of Vincennes served as a country home for the Kings of France as far back as the 12th century. The surrounding woodlands and spring-fed lakes made it attractive initially as a hunting lodge for royal guests. Over the centuries the facility was expanded to serve growing military , religious and commercial needs. During the 19th century, Napoleon converted it into an arsenal and it has been in the hands of the Army ever since. After World War 2, it was carefully restored and opened to the public. |
