Race Day: Lower Level Along The Seine

The red line on the map marks the course from the twenty five through the twenty seven kilometer mark. Green circles (Friends and Family) identify the location of subway stations along the route. Place the mouse pointer over the circle to display the name of the station. Click on the name to view information on trains that are appropriate for those interested in following the progress of their runners across the course. Blue circles (Video Segments) mark the location at which the video segments listed in the viewer on this page were produced. Purple squares (Points of Interest) identify locations, buildings and monuments of historical or practical interest.

Road Surface

The road surface along this side of the Seine River is asphalt. There are segments of this leg that pass through tunnels. The best known of these is the lengthily tunnel that passes under Place de L'Alma. The 1997 automobile crash that resulted in the death of Diana and her friend Dodi Fayed occurred at the bend just before the road rises to ground level (see detail in 28 to 31K section).

Friends/Family

For Friends and Family who want to follow key parts of the marathon with only a minimum of walking, this area may be the ideal spot. Place de Concord, not far from the start of the marathon, is located above this location. After a long gap in time, the runners will return, passing along the river below. Then there is time to catch a Line 1 subway train back toward the finish line. To fill the gaps, Tulleries Gardens, Notre Dame Cathedral and the Louvre are nearby (expect long lines and long waits at the Louvre). Work the timing of all this out with your runner. Concorde is within minutes of the start, the section along the Seine is a little past half way and the finish is... the finish.
