WELCOME TO OUR WEBSITE!
The team that puts this material together is made up of a small group of film/video makers, artists and writers many of whom are also long distance runners.
About seven years ago, we decided to run some international marathons. In each case, as we prepared and then participated in these events, there were a lot of questions we felt were not adequately answered by the handouts and other instructions provided at the events. Often, this was due to a language issue. It was occasionally due to cultural things: Things that are standard or considered to be normal in that particular country. But, they were handled in a manner unfamiliar to us. That is what started us on a journey leading to the creation of this web site.
Who would not love to work his or her way around the world, going from one marathon to another, running and making movies along the way? We certainly did and now, with many projects "in the can," to use an old movie phrase, we are ready to show selected events from that library. Events that we feel are particularly worthwhile. We will also tell you about our journeys and provide first-hand accounts of things that happened along the way.
We do not seek, nor accept money from the events we cover. Our space does not go to the highest bidder. It goes to marathons that we feel are worth the time, money and effort that it takes to participate. Unfortunately, there is no way we can run and cover every marathon in the world. In fact, our capability in this respect is fairly minimal. So, we start by looking for events that, in one way or another, are special: races in locations that are of particular interest, are especially challenging (or good for a PR - like the Monaco and Chicago Marathons), or are outstanding because they are so well managed. We look for marathon running events that anyone can participate in if they submit their application in time and get their medically qualified feet to the start line before the gun goes off. We hold off on events that, although very good, are going through changes (eg., course changes). In the long run, you will also find a few more small races than large, mega-events in these pages. We feel that there are many really great marathons out there that fall under the radar. But, the bottom line is, our choices are based on our opinion. "We" being a small but diverse group of runners. You may differ, which is fine. Since you took the time to "listen" to our opinion, we certainly will take the time to read yours. See our Contact page.
